A Quick Guide to the Place We Love!
Our Puget Sound team

We love being a part of the Puget Sound region. Only those who live here can truly appreciate the beauty of the views of azure blue waters and distant snowcapped mountains that we get to enjoy every day from our Mukilteo dentist’s office.

We also love the many outdoor activities we get to enjoy here, such as fishing (Dr. Johnson and his son are avid fly fishermen), hiking, boating, windsurfing, SUP boarding, and getting to eat some of the best seafood around (Ivar’s clam chowder, YUM!)

Taking a ferry ride to Whidbey Island for a day of wine tasting at one of the many small wineries or just whale watching along Saratoga Passage is a fave destination.

If you already live here, then you know what we’re talking about when we say that there is no place quite like the Puget Sound area. If you don’t, then you are in for a wonderful adventure when you are able to visit.

  • George Vancouver explored Puget Sound in 1792. Vancouver claimed it for Great Britain on 4 June 1792, naming it for one of his officers, Lieutenant Peter Puget.
  • Among the marine mammal species found in Puget Sound are harbor seals and Orca whales. Orcas are famous throughout the Sound and are a large tourist attraction.
  • It is estimated that more than 100 million geoducks (pronounced “gooey ducks”) are packed into Puget Sound’s sediments. Also known as “king clam”, geoducks are considered to be a delicacy in Asian countries.
  • The first European settlement in the Puget Sound area was Fort Nisqually, a fur trade post of the Hudson’s Bay Company built in 1833. The first American settlement on Puget Sound was Tumwater. It was founded in 1845 by Americans who had come via the Oregon Trail.
  • A unique state-run ferry system, the Washington State Ferries, connects the larger islands to the Washington mainland, as well as both sides of the Sound, allowing people and cars to move about the greater Puget Sound region.
